Translation

Translation is a complex process that requires excellent writing skills and a thorough knowledge of the languages and subject matter involved. Translating isn't just a question of substituting the words of one language for those of another. Translators must be very aware of the cultural differences between the source and target language countries and understand the needs of the target group for whom the translation is intended.

Cloud 9 provides high quality translations from Dutch into English in a wide range of subjects and specialist fields including:

□ medical and paramedical
□ health care (inc. nursing/general practice)
□ tourism
□ marketing, public relations and corporate communication
□ correspondence (inc. business)
□ media and entertainment
□ websites

Cloud 9 translates a wide range of text types including:

□ articles
□ brochures
□ business and private correspondence
□ catalogues
□ certificates, diplomas and contracts
□ stage and film scripts
□ interviews
□ leaflets
□ literary and creative texts
□ SPCs (summary of product characteristics) and PILs (patient information leaflets)
□ websites

Sworn Translations

A sworn translation is an official translation made by a sworn translator. This is a translator who fulfils certain quality criteria, is found to be qualified by the court and has sworn a professional oath before the legal body in his or her district court. Sworn translators are registered at the relevant court and authorised to translate certain official documents such as identification papers, certificates of good conduct, educational diplomas and contracts. Sworn translations are attached to the original document and provided with the translator’s signature, official stamp and a sworn statement. Anne Paris was registered as a sworn translator for the English and Dutch language at the Arnhem District Court, the Netherlands, in 2003.

Cloud 9 can arrange individual or group coaching in writing skills, conversation skills, business English, and secondary school English.

Cloud 9

• My name is Anne Paris. I was born in 1960 in Cheshire, England and have lived in the Netherlands since 1989. After working in British and Dutch healthcare for over twenty years, I successfully completed a degree in English translation at the ITV Hogeschool in Utrecht, the Netherlands, in 2003, by passing the Dutch national translators exam (‘SNEVT'). I was registered as a sworn translator for the English and Dutch language at the Arnhem District Court, the Netherlands, in 2003 and now work full-time as a professional freelance translator and language coach.

• I am a member of the NGTV (www.ngtv.nl) and SENSE (www.sense-online.nl)

• My main objectives are:

- To provide high quality translations of Dutch into English, which can be certified for legal or official use if required, and to fulfil the growing need for superior translation work.

- To apply the knowledge and terminology gained during twenty years working in British and Dutch healthcare in my work as a translator.

- To combine quality, accuracy, integrity and flexibility in my work as a translator and language coach.

What’s in a Name?

It is said that the true meaning of being on Cloud 9 comes from the Buddhist principle of ‘taking refuge in enlightenment, proper understanding and perfection’. In everyday terms, it means ‘to be extremely happy’. I decided to call my company Cloud 9 in memory of my mother, who had her own business making wedding and anniversary cakes, and which was also called Cloud 9. My choice of name was therefore a purely emotional one. However, since my work ethic is based on the definition of Cloud 9, enlightenment, proper understanding and perfection, it would seem an entirely appropriate one nonetheless.
